Can Saeed Ajmal Get A Perfect 10 Wickets?

The Test series between South African and Pakistan has seen us be blessed by seeing pace bowling at an almost untouchable calibre by Dale Steyn in the 1st game contrasted by Spin bowling that has been every bit as impressive in this game by Saeed Ajmal.

As we reminisce on the supreme mastery of both efforts, it would not be amiss to suggest that Saeed Ajmal has an outside chance to join one of Test Crickets most elite groups

The 10 wickets in an innings Club containing only England's Off Spinner Jim Laker and India's Stateman like Leg Spinner Anil Kumble.

On reading my suggestion, you must think I am insane by how impossibly difficult it is to achieve combined with the fury of 'Murphy's Law' that I am tempting.

In truth, I am even nodding cynically in acceptance of this knowing that it might be a Richard Hadlee example of cruel Fate where he catches the 10th wicket when he had 9 next to his name. And next to guaranteed of getting his tenth peg the next time he bowled. This is Pakistan, so there needs to be a bit of dramatic farce attached to it meaning Ajmal will have 9 with the last two at the wicket.

Ajmal bowling........and Morne Morkel goes for a woolly woof as the ball catches the edge and goes straight up. Fielders running in from everywhere...yours....mine....his... are the screams heard in the telecast. Ending in all three looking at each other as the ball hits the turf.....

Then the real drama.........

Azhar Ali is switched on and sees a batsman out of his ground. So he picks up the ball runs out the batsman leaving Ajmal stranded on 9 wickets.........

Very Pakistan!

But a way from my vivid imagination he has an outside chance by the fact that he has mesmerised all the batsmen while all the other bowlers have been largely impotent. The new ball is still 25 overs off and with the absence of any semblance of reverse swing that eliminates the pace men to a large degree. Plus with them being pretty limp in their penetration they offer little threat. Leaving only Hafees as a potential spoiler, a spinner who is very respected for cleaning up the tail with his 'variety' of straight ones....

Ajmal, who tired yesterday will be fresh today meaning he will probably be primed to truly dismember the rest of the South Africans in a quick kill fashion facilitated by his genius and their Dead Man Walking' demeanour in his presence.

Meaning 10 wickets might sound far fetched, but do not be surprised if it happens...........
