Preview, Bangladesh versus Pakistan, Pallekele

There is a lovely bit of tension bubbling in the build up to this penultimate Match of the Tournament with the storyline of 'big brother' versus 'little brother' coupled with a fight for the last place in the Super 8's ensuring a knock down and drag them out affair. The scenario is heavily in Pakistan's favour in terms of what is needed for qualification with them just needing to avoid losing by more than 36 runs with Bangladesh needing that winning margin to progress

A tough ask for the Bangladesh Tigers, but in T20 anything can happen. Especially when one of the Teams is as wildly inconsistent as Pakistan has a reputation for being

Likely Teams

It seems unlikely that the Pakistanis will make any alterations to the line up that was so impressive against New Zealand. So the 11 will be as follows

Hafeez, Nazir, Jamshed, Kamran, Shoaib, Umar, Afridi, Yasir, Gul, Tanvir, Ajmal

The Tigers are also likely to have the same line up that they did against New Zealand despite the fact their bowling line up was shellacked.

Tamim Iqbal, 2 Mohammad Ashraful, 3 Shakib Al Hasan, 4 Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), 5 Mahmudullah, 6 Nasir Hossain, 7 Ziaur Rahman, 8 Mashrafe Mortaza, 9 Abdur Razzak, 10 Elias Sunny/Abul Hasan, 11 Shafiul Islam.

The Keys to Winning

The toss will be huge with the Pakistani brains trust already knowing that the Bangladeshi's are under the pump with what they need to qualify. If they can win the toss and bat the pressure becomes even more intense because Bangladesh will have to ensure they win by chasing, and then arrive at the total quickly enough to boost their run rate adequately to qualify.

If they can get this advantage they need to hammer it home by batting in a manner responsible enough to bury Bangladesh. By this I mean, there is no reason to go helter skelter from ball one and then get bowled out for 100. Rather have the score of 150 in mind with the strength of your bowling making you feel that this score will almost assure your place in the next round

The key man in this becoming a reality is the Captain Mohammad Hafeez, who is one of the few in the Pakistani line up that has real composure as a batsman. The rest are a James Dean type of live fast, die young and leave a beautiful corpse breed

It the coin falls in The Tigers favour the bowlers will have to be the torch bearers for the Team. The lefties in the Bangladesh batting makes all the Pakistani spinners even more effective than they usually are, but a real fillip to them will be if the pacemen can perform to their potential. If they do it will make the spinners even more ogreish by the fact the are bowling with the benefit that scoreboard pressure allows.

All in all only a descent into real madness will see Pakistan fail.

Mohammad Ashraful................

This is your stage to show that you might truly live out your immense talent rather than just frustrate continuously. A player of real class that could play a master class in this match to give his Team a chance. So might his opening partner Tamim Iqbal that has been quiet of late, but showed his calibre in England a few years back.
It would be such a confidence builder for the Team if the batting could fire at the top and would set the stage for their very accomplished middle order to have a real effect

The batting is crucial for the Teams success with the bowling being treated with disdain.

Duly, it make the toss imperative for the Tigers to win in the hope that they can put up a challenging total that gets in the minds of the Pakistani batsmen making it easier for the Tigers bowlers

A bowling unit that outside of the accomplished left arm spin of Shakin Al Hasan is bereft of class. A lift needs to come from the Teams bowling leader in Mortaza as well as the talented Shafiul, who both struggled in the first game. They need to provide the early strikes to allow the truckload of spinners to bowl on their terms for if they come into the attack with the Pakistani batsmen on top they have no hope.

It will be very tough for the Bangladesh Team, but it is not impossible if they all fire to their potential

Pakistan will win
